Default Star Wars Galactic Files

http://www.beckett.com/news/2012/06/...card-set-ever/

$120 per box retail? Not sure on this at that price point!

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Contributing Editor

Star Wars fans get ready.

Topps is putting together a comprehensive trading card set featuring events from the full saga – all six episodes down to 350 base cards.

Star Wars Galactic Files.

The names says it all. A list of characters, factions, vehicles, creatures from all six films, The Clone Wars and the expanded universe, which includes comics, novels and more.

This is done all in the name of the 35th anniversary of the original Star Wars movie.

According to Topps, the 350 base card set is the largest Star Wars set every produced. Parallels make their way into the set with three levels: blue (numbered to .350), red (/35) and gold 1/1.

But the base cards are only part of the fun. There are two hits in every box including a sketch card, an autograph or embroidered patch relic.

Along with the massive base set, there are five inserts: Duels of Fate, I Have a Bad Feeling About This, Classic Lines, Heroes on Both Side and Foil Cards. There is one insert in every pack.

The set is scheduled to come out in September with a suggested retail price of $4.99 a pack with 24 packs in a box.

As the release date gets closer and more info is released, we’ll be sure to update the Stars Wars fans. In the meantime, check out the pictures.

Can I pay $60 if they leave out the crappy trilogy? :P

I may be in for this. I got tired of building the individual releases' sets, so one all-comprehensive set would work well for me. Plus we know there won't be anymore in the series, so I can't see many regrets later, or some big surprise release with bonus cards, for the "original" 6.

I have a sell sheet for this...it's in the latest Previews, if anyone wants to scan it before I get around to it. I will try and get it up on the forum tomorrow, I have a backlog of stuff to scan, have not gotten it out in over a month.

I can't wait....it's a little pricey, sure, but you get a lot. 24 packs per box, 12 cards per pack.

This will be the first Star Wars product I do a box of...it has everything I like in a set...a big base set, paralells, and some inserts that don't involve sketches or relics.

I'll probably buy a case, no matter how expensive they are. I want to know how the heck they got Harrison Ford again, must be for charity. Looks like a fun break tho, albeit costly one.

I wish I could afford a case. It's been a lifelong dream in the hobby for me, but it's something I might not ever be able to do. I guess I'll keep dreaming! If any set was the set to do it, this one sounds like the one. Basic cards look good, and at 350 of them it would probably lead to the least amount of duplicates in the non-sports side of the hobby.

I guess Lucas won't be remaking the original trilogy like he was planning?

Definite pass for me. What I see is: 350 cards of images that have all been used and re-used and then re-used again, parallels that will cost two arms and two legs to assemble, patch cards that (so far as I have been able to gather) are just non-film-used generic patches, and the miniscule chance that I pull a Ford auto, all for over $100 a box. I'm a huge SW fan, I'm going to Orlando for my 4th SW Celebration, but I cannot justify shelling out that much cash for little payoff. The autos & sketch cards I am sure will be nice, but chances are low that you'll pull something that will redeem the box. Watch when the auto list comes out and the bulk of the signers are common names like Mayhew, Bulloch, and Prowse with a few rare names sprinkled in to lure in the casual fan. This just feels gratuitous by Topps.

Ok, I'm done now. Gotta go pop in my original Laserdisk versions and have a marathon of the un-modified trilogy.

I'm now on the fence... I see this includes Expanded Universe and Clone Wars tv... If they continue with the Clone Wars this set is already outdated. Hmmm.

Cards are 24-pt, so thick. I am curious about how many are recycled images there are as darth lynch mentions. It's an iconic series (ok, well Episodes 4-6, at least) so pretty much any image worthy of a card will be familiar already.

Signers so far:
Harrison Ford
Mark Hamill
Carrie Fisher
Ray Park
Peter Mayew
Amy Allen

i guess from a trading card aspect, the signers are nice...but

Allen, Mayhew and Park are $20-25 at a convention tops on an 8x10, Fisher $50? Hamill $100. i don't see the value really, but that's me

Each Hobby Box includes 1 Sketch Card and either 1 Autograph (Hobby Only) or 1 Embroidered Patch "relic" card (Hobby Only).
Autographs and Patches are in equal quantities, so you should get 6 of each per case on average.
12 cards per pack, 24 packs per box, 12 boxes per case.
Suggested retail is $4.99 Pack or $119.76 per box

350 Card Base Set (yep, 350)
10 Card “Duels of Fate” Set (1:6 Packs)
8 Card “I Have a Bad Feeling About This” Set (1:4 packs)
10 Card Classic Lines Set (1:4 Packs)
10 Card “Heroes on Both Sides” Set (1:6 packs)
20 Card Foil Set (1:6 Packs)
Sketch Cards (1:Box)
Manufactured Patch Cards
Autograph Cards
  • Harrison Ford
  • Mark Hamill
  • Carrie Fisher
  • Ray Park
  • Peter Mayhew
  • Amy Allen
And more…

Pre-order Pricing for Star Wars Galactic Files
$108.00 Box
$629.00 6-box Half Case
$1225.00 12-box Case

It's crazy that they also upped the case to 12 boxes. With 24 point stock and 12 cards to a pack, a 12 box case is going to be HEAVY. Not to mention there's just something wrong with the case price being over a thousand dollars. An 8 box case would have just sounded better.

If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to run a group purchase on this one.

Ed

Scanned from the latest Previews...sorry for the dust in the scan, that's three months worth on the scanner tray, heh.

Probably gonna stuff more crap artists in there to fill in packs with drawings a 5yr old could do better. Over priced box for what you get.

If Topps really wanted us to buy this they'd include Natalie Portman, Sam Jackson(again), Ewan McGregor, Jimmy Smits, and Liam Neeson

Portman and McGregor would be enough to get me into at least one box.

Would have picked up a few packs of this at Wal-mart (they had a bunch of the rack packs) however, all packs were slit open at the top to expose the cards edge. Pretty sad. Bad enough to deal with pack searching, but to just essentially open them all up...
